I have been preaching logging for years so I fill out incident reports as therapy recording more details than you will ever want to read. (EoD will publish a bunch of it.) Logging reality is the only solution I've said is more important than food or #CGM4G.
@hunikkacan is where i keep a public log. If you want to know what I think, go there.
These incident reports help for a couple reasons:
First, it's the law for certified child care facilities and if you want respectable people to protect us, we are obligated to do our best to abide by the rules.
Before problem solving can be done, an honest assessment needs done to determine the true magnitude of the problem.
Failed solutions (aka "incidents") need to be logged so that we know what doesn't work.
Trends can be identified. Remember when we associated Grandma Cindy with David having headaches and it turned out to be he has my allergy for caffeine?
And frankly, if it turns out that it is dangerous for certain people or combinations of people to be around children, it is our obligation to keep those people away from children until we know what CAN be safely expected.
Additionally, it gives us the moral authority to simply say, "We are doing our best! If you know better, please show us better!"
I feel like Snape, but I'm doing my best to use what I know to keep the people I love safe enough to make fun mistakes.
